MASERU- Former Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) Chief Executive officer (CEO) Advocate Mpaiphele Maqutu, has been appointed the new Director of elections by the Independent Electoral Commission.
He has been appointed on a five year contract effectively from 1st March, 2022.
He replaces former incumbent, Letholetseng Ntsike, whose contract expired two years ago in July 2020. Due to the Commission’s lack of funds, Mr Lehlohonolo Suping, who is the chief Legal Officer has been acting in that position.
The recruitment process started last year in December and only came to end on 22 February 2022.
Adv Maqutu will be the third director of elections since 1997 following Khothatso Ralitsie and Dr Ntsike.
An accountant and corporate lawyer by profession and is a holder of Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting – LLB. A certified Director and Governance Specialist with a two year decade experience in the corporate and public sectors.
