MASERU- Three members of a youth grouping who were arrested earlier today have been released.
Mr Kananelo Boloetse, Motsamai Mokotjo and one Jane were nabbed by police at the Moshoeshoe I statue in Maseru while readying themselves for the march and waiting for the arrival of other protesters.
The march was to petition Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro to review the M5,000 Petrol allowances which Members of Parliament had been given.
According to Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, “the trio has been charged for inciting violence and contravening the Public Gatherings and Processions Act and have been released on own recognition to avail themselves for court appearance when called.”
However a source who preferred anonymity said they had not at all been charged, “Not even a statement from any of them was taken. They did not even have the slightest feel of the holding cells, but their phones were confiscated. They were made aware of the trouble they could have gotten themselves into.”
Lesotho Express could not get hold of any of the three to get clarity on what had really transpired.
