MASERU- Former Basotho National Party (BNP) leader Chief Thesele ‘Maseribane has resigned from his position as minister of Small Business, Cooperatives and Marketing with immediate effect.
‘Maseribane has already notified Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro of his immediate resignation, a move which has been welcomed with both hands.
According to BNP leader and Foreign Affairs and International Relations minister, Mr Machesetsa Mofomobe, ‘Maseribane is expected to submit his letter of resignation as Member of Parliament to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Sephiri Motanyane tomorrow.
‘Maseribane will be taking up an ambassadorial post in Italy after its rigorous vetting on him.
“Immediately after the submission of his letter to the Speaker, which is expected to take place tomorrow, this will automatically pave way for former Youth League President, MS ‘Machere Seutloali, who will now be a member of parliament once sworn in,” said Mofomobe.
‘Maseribane’s two term tenure as leader of BNP ended when Mofomobe took over on 12 June, 2021.
Seutloali, 36, served as youth league president from March 2015 to October 2018.
In June, Seutloali took a courageous step and threw her name in the hat to contest for the party’s leadership, only to withdraw at the eleventh hour, just a day before the elections on 12 June,2021 so as to make way for her leader, Mofomobe, in the name of unifying the party.
‘Maseribane’s mobile phone was unavailable for a comment.
For her part, Seutloali said she was all ready to serve as a Member of Parliament.
“I always knew that this day would come and it only goes to say God’s timing is always perfect and my time has come to serve my people as I have always wished, especially the youth and women.”
